Activity & Events

Central Food Retail, in cooperation with Nagano Prefecture of Japan,
is holding the NAGANO FAIR, with a wide variety of authentic farm produce specially imported from Japan, from November 4 to November 10, 2009 only at Central Food Hall in Central Chidlom.

“Nagano Prefecture is one of Japan’s most famous agricultural areas providing the best quality farm products to restaurants around the world,” said Mr Morio Takeuchi, President of the Agricultural Exports Promotion Conference of Nagano Prefecture.

“The farmers’ great care in every step of the cultivation and distribution processes ensures that their agricultural products have been widely recognized for their outstanding flavours.

“With the advantages of its clear water, abundant sunshine, fertile soil from volcanic ash and floodplain protected by the surrounding mountains, Nagano can deliver bumper nutritional crops. On the behalf of Nagano Prefecture, I am delighted to have this opportunity to introduce our famous local fruit and vegetables to Thai consumers.”

“As Thailand’s leading operator of supermarket chain, we are committed to providing our customers with impressive new shopping experiences,” said Mr Nick Reitmeier, Vice President of Buying – Perishable, Produce, International Food, Wine and Own Brand of Central Food Retail.

“We never stop looking for the most creative innovations from around the world, and this fair is our first cooperation with Nagano Prefecture. Visitors to the fair will find a wide range of seasonal fruit and vegetables from original sources at special prices. They include the finest quality farm products, such as the lime-sized Otome apples, big Nansui pears, juicy Kyohou grapes, seedless Nagano Purple grapes, red sweet Shinano apples, sweet and sour Shinano Gold apples, delicious Shimeji mushrooms and popular Enoki mushrooms suitable for all kinds of dishes,” he said.

There is also a demonstration of the traditional Kagami-Wari sake barrel breaking ceremony which in Japan usually happens only once a year, and Mr Shinobu Tsuchiya, a renowned chef from Nagano, will demonstrate the way to prepare Shinchu Soba, the famous Japanese soba noodle.
