Central Food Retail Ltd. is holding an Amazing Longan, The Value of Organic Longan at the 88 branches of Tops Super and Tops Market from now until 28 August 2007. The fair, opened today at Tops market, Bangna Branch by Professor Dr.Thira Sutabutra, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, has been organized to give farmers assistance in distributing the fruit, and to give support and encouragement to the organic farming industry. The company expects it to generate sales of more than 260 tonnes of longan this year.

“This fair is a collaboration between Central Food Retail and National Bureau of Agricultural Commodity and Food Standards (ACFS.) Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to bring nutritious, organic longans directly to Thai consumers, and we also have Earth Safe on board, an organization that’s committed to nature conservation and promoting of pesticide-free farming,” said Ms. Chiranun Poopat, Senior Vice President – Buying & Merchandising and Marketing, Central Food Retail Co., Ltd.


“The fair will offer of fresh longan direct from orchards in Chiangmai and Lamphun, with 15 tonnes of the finest fruit offered at special prices. Organic longan is good for health because, apart from their nutrition value as fruit, they are grown and harvested without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

“When people enjoy eating organic produce like these longan, they will not only be helping the farmers who grow them, but they’ll also encourage more producers to take up pesticide-free farming. And that will be good for the environment, as well as for the consumers.



“At the Amazing Longan, The Value of Organic Longan, customers will find longans of different types, including a rare variety known as i-doh, which passed our highest grading level and is guaranteed with the ‘Q’ sign for quality control”

There will also be many different processed products from longan, demonstrations of making longan desserts, a health corner exhibiting the benefits of eating longan, and more.

Customers who buy more than two kilogrammes of organic longan via Spot Rewards Card will be eligible for a free copy of the healthy food book, “Eat Well Planner – Longan”. There are 6,000 copies of the book available and promotion is valid from now until 28 August 2007 at participating Tops super and Tops market.
